Tuffie 5 wipes tackle NDM-1 superbug
Vernacare's all-in-one Tuffie 5 cleaning and disinfecting wipe has been scientifically proven to eradicate the new antibiotic-resistant enzyme NDM-1 (New Delhi metallo-lactamase-1)
Independent laboratory tests have certified the wipe highly effective against NDM-1 to EN1276 standard, eradicating 99.999% of bacteria within 1 minute.
"The wipe's proven ability to work so quickly and effectively in destroying NDM-1 is an important breakthrough in infection prevention." said Chris Socratous, Product Manager for Vernacare.
Tuffie 5 is also scientifically proven to eradicate Clostridium difficile, Norovirus, MRSA and H1N1 (swine flu) amongst many others.
"We are confident that Tuffie 5 will be at the forefront of infection control strategies to combat NDM-1 and other pathogens across the NHS," added Chris Socratous. "The product has been heralded as a major step forward in infection control and is currently used by more than 90 acute NHS Trusts."
Vernacare has also recently reduced the cost of its Tuffie range of cleaning and disinfecting wipes by up to 30%, through introducing new 'greener' flexible packaging in the form of flexible space-saving canisters that are 70% lighter than traditional tubs.
The pre-impregnated wipes avoid nurse time spent preparing chlorine disinfecting solutions and help trusts meet NHS Saving Lives Initiative 'High Impact Intervention No7' for cleaning in the event of an outbreak. Tuffie 5 begins to work instantly on contact, with industry tests showing that its disinfecting properties continue to work for 12 hours after the initial cleaning has taken place.
Chris Socratous commented: "As hospitals guard against an NDM-1 outbreak, we are pleased to offer a quick, easy and affordable solution that infection prevention teams can rely on in their efforts to create cleaner, safer healthcare environments."
The wipes are fragrance, chlorine and alcohol free, and are cosmetically approved to EU standards as skin safe.
